What is Restorative Yoga?

 

Restorative Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that uses props such as blankets, blocks, and bolsters to support the body into a state of ease as it gently opens in postures.  Restorative yoga postures can be modified to work for everyone as it works in conjunction with your body providing it the support that it needs to find space gently.

 

Benefits of Restorative Yoga

 

  • Slows down the mind and body from the constant running and stress that is put on them.

 

  • Soothes the nervous system - activate the parasympathetic nervous system to help balance out the frequent fight or flight mode that we’re often in throughout our day.  

 

  • Increase your awareness of sensations in the body and your thoughts.  In other words, work your mindfulness muscle while allowing the body to gently open.

 

  • Find some space in the body without effort or strain.  We spend so much time constricting our bodies (driving, sitting, looking at our phones) and restorative yoga is about finding a comfortable posture that allows for opening without stress on the body.  Everyone can safely find space with props and modifications in simple restorative postures.


 

Restorative Yoga and Sound Healing -  an Amazing Combination

 

Both restorative yoga and sound healing are about gently opening up and releasing.  Restorative yoga does this through the breath and through supportive postures and sound healing with singing bowls does it through vibrational energy that aligns the chakras.  This allows your subtle energy centers to open and find balance.

 

A combination of postures, breath, and sound healing restores and renews you on the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic levels.

Restorative yoga is amazing for everyone - whether you have injuries, limited mobility, want a way to balance out a very active or hectic lifestyle, restorative yoga is a path to breathe into.  In a private session, I will guide you into restorative yoga postures that will allow you to open up the body gently. 

 

These postures can be combined with reiki healing energy or sound healing with singing bowls - both are an amazing compliment to restorative yoga.  These healing energies restore your subtle energy and the physical restorative yoga postures restore your body and mind.
