Healing with Sound Healing| Mindful Life on Demand

What is so healing about sound healing?

Sound healing with singing bowls uses vibrational energy and sound to help balance and cleanse the chakras (energy centers) in the body.  When these centers are out of tune it is hard to feel your best.

I believe that singing bowls channel energy similar to reiki - the healing energy knows where it needs to go to benefit the recipient.  Each of the chakras is associated with specific organs of the body, emotional states, and spiritual levels. Sound healing helps to get the energy centers into alignment, which promotes the healing and optimal functioning of the mind, body, and spirit.

Sound healing is not a replacement for conventional medical treatment and, of course, everyone should consult their physician regarding any medical conditions, but I believe that sound healing could benefit you if you are trying to heal mentally and/or physically.  The energetic alignment provided by sound healing, in addition to the deep relaxation that it provides, can put you on the path to wellness. Even if you do not have a specific health concern, the compounding stress of everyday life adversely affect all of us and sound healing could help you undo some of the negative effects of stress.

What could you experience in a sound healing session?

I usually tell students at the start of a sound healing workshop to be open to whatever they may experience.  I tell them what I will be doing to guide the group, but I do not give indications of what they could or should experience personally.

In a sound session you have your own personal journey where your energy is moving, vibrating, and coming into alignment.  This will feel different each time you experience the bowls because you come into a session with new energy each time. The important part is just to be present and open in a session to whatever you hear, see, and feel.

What students report after a session

Sometimes after a sound healing session students want to share their experiences with the group or with me privately.  There is no need to share - you may have an intensely personal experience that you want to process on your own - but some find the processing is facilitated through sharing.

Here are just some of the experiences that students have reported as a result of my sound sessions:

  • Feeling light and free in body and mind

  • Deep relaxation (some don’t want to get up from their chairs or mats!)

  • A sense of floating away from or detaching from the physical body

  • Emotional reactions - some students cry during or after a session as energy is moved and emotions are released

  • Seeing colors

  • A sense of warmth or coolness in certain areas of the body

  • A sense of discomfort in a specific area of the body that usually melts away during the session

There is no right or wrong thing to see or to feel.  It is a personal experience and the important part is to just be aware of what sensations come across physically, mentally, and emotionally.

What should you do after a sound healing session?

Students often report to me that they feel great after a sound healing session and that their days or weeks after the session have a noticeable positive shift.  Many have improvements in sleep and reductions in stress. Again, your experience may be different. You may even feel some agitation after a sound session if the energy that is moved has brought up things that need to be processed.

Be receptive and aware of any post-sound healing sensations or emotions.  New experiences and opportunities may manifest as you open up to a heightened awareness.

After your session make sure that you drink plenty of water and get enough rest to allow the energy to process through your body.

Crystal vs. Himalayan Sound Healing

There is a bowl for each major chakra and I play the bowls in protocols for chakra cleansing and balancing, deep relaxation, and for healing.

Before I start a sound healing session I charge the bowls with reiki healing energy so that when they are played they have additional vibrational energy that will help participants manifest their intentions.  (I also clear the energy of the bowls after each session.)

Himalayan Singing Bowls

My Himalayan singing bowls are hand hammered in Nepal.  The bowls are chanted into when they are made to give them additional healing benefits.

The sounds of these bowls are lower and more complex than the crystal bowls.

The Himalayan bowls can be played on the body during private sessions and in some group sessions.

Crystal Singing Bowls

Crystal singing bowls are made out of 99+% quartz crystal, which is a wonderful material for clearing energy.

I often use the crystal bowls for chakra cleansing and balancing in which the participants actively participate in the process for part of the session.  You may be chanting the mantra associated with the chakra, using a visualization, or applying a positive affirmation mentally to the chakra location.

These are just a few options - there are so many ways to connect to this beautiful energy.
